2026 Road Safety Action Plan
Developing a new 2026 Road Safety Action Plan
We are now developing a new, five year action plan to build on the success of Road Safety Plan 2021. The Plan will include 2030 trauma reduction targets, which are the next step in moving towards our goal of zero trauma on NSW roads.
Our 2026 Plan will be based on the proven Safe Systems approach to road safety, so that initiatives to deliver safer roads, speeds, people and vehicles work together to keep us protected.
We need actions that address our trauma problem, based on what we know works here and overseas, as well as community feedback.
Listening to the NSW community
We recently completed our community engagement for the 2026 Road Safety Action Plan. Thank you to the NSW community who participated and provided feedback. The 2026 Road Safety Action Plan Engagement Summary provides an overview of the engagement activities and feedback across NSW during the consultation.
A video of the road safety presentation delivered at the Wagga Wagga community forum summarises the information provided to community to inform the feedback from the face-to-face community forums
Road safety is a shared responsibility and the feedback from NSW communities on road trauma is crucial as we aim for zero deaths and serious injuries on NSW roads by 2056.
Our long term vision
Road safety actions over decades have saved thousands of lives, but more can be done.
NSW has set a target of zero fatalities and serious injuries on our roads by 2056 as part of our Future Transport Strategy.
Road Safety Plan 2021 outlined proven initiatives to move NSW closer to our target of reducing road fatalities by 30 per cent from 2008–2010 levels by 2021.
