2026 Road Safety Action Plan
Have your say
Our long term vision
Road safety actions over decades have saved thousands of lives, but more can be done.
NSW has set a target of zero fatalities and serious injuries on our roads by 2056 as part of our Future Transport Strategy.
Current plan
Road Safety Plan 2021 outlined proven initiatives to move NSW closer to our target of reducing road fatalities by 30 per cent from 2008–2010 levels by 2021.

Developing a new 2026 Road Safety Action Plan
We are now developing a new, five year action plan to build on the success of Road Safety Plan 2021. The Plan will include 2030 trauma reduction targets, which are the next step in moving towards our goal of zero trauma on NSW roads.
Our 2026 Plan will be based on the proven Safe Systems approach to road safety, so that initiatives to deliver safer roads, speeds, people and vehicles work together to keep us protected.
We need actions that address our trauma problem, based on what we know works here and overseas, as well as community feedback.
Addressing ongoing trauma
While we have come a long way, we know that someone is killed or hospitalised every 46 minutes because of a crash on NSW roads.
Find out more about crashes on NSW roads by reading our trauma snapshot. You can also find out more about last year’s crash trends here.
Have your say
Everyone uses roads – whether you’re driving, walking, cycling, motorcycling, or as a car, bus or light rail passenger.
We want to know what you think is important.
Consultation is open now and will close on 29 April 2021.
