KEY POINTS:

• The program is an important contributor to the delivery of the Road Safety Plan 2021 and has funded 110 projects since 2015/16 financial year.
• Grants of $5000 to $30,000 were made available for local community road safety projects, such as educational projects to increase road safety awareness in specific communities.

Minister Pavey said the program will provide community groups with the opportunity to run local projects to increase road safety awareness and understanding, and support safer road use.

“Successful applications included projects focused on community road safety education, as well as areas such as road safety for seniors and Aboriginal communities, support for learner driver mentoring programs, road safety workshops for culturally and linguistically diverse communities and people with intellectual disabilities.

“Community groups are in a unique position to connect with local people about local road safety issues. They can reinforce our road safety messages in targeted ways that can make a real difference in encouraging people to be safer road users,” Ms Pavey said.
