Actions
- Collaborate with your workers to understand their work-related travel. Consider conducting research in the form of a survey, informal interviews or using team meetings.
- Continually assess the road safety risks in your workplace and consider how they can be mitigated as part of your periodic risk review process (see tips below).
- Identify areas of road safety that require further worker awareness.
Tips
To assess road safety risks in your workplace, analyse the data collected in step one to identify any specific trends in crashes (for example, 40 per cent might be rear-end crashes), injuries (for example, five might be whiplash injuries) and infringements (for example, 25 per cent may be for speeding). By analysing this data, you will be able to highlight any specific road safety risks (for example, speeding) and begin mitigation actions to reduce this risk.
This is not a ‘one-off’ activity, you must also continually assess your workplace’s road safety risks to ensure new areas of concern are appropriately actioned.
